Clamp Base Architects' Desk Lamp Review

Clamp Base Architects' Desk LampIn order to get some idea of where the Architects' Desk Lamp sits in the quality spectrum we first should look at the bottom of the food chain in this market. You can get a typical surprisingly-cheap task lamp from OfficeDepot for around $12 and feel frugal as you wonder at how much you can buy nowadays. If you never touch the thing, it will last nearly forever as the one in my Dogs den/work-space with a CFL bulb and auto timer has.But once you've even breathed on it, it will self destruct within months of that day you thought you were being so smart and price conscious.

This lamp then is a very real step above Mr. Frugal's folly. The caveat being that step is a singular one.The basic construction such as springs, connections and shaft are the same, probably interchangeable in fact.Improvements are in the "touch points" such as friction knobs, head joint assembly, switch and power knob as well as bulb shroud.Just the places the junk lamps fail.

Now lets compare the Architects' to a Tolomeo Classic. Is the Architects' Lamp worth a tenth of the Classic? Not if you care about Product Design or Design Integrity. But if you need something that works and will last longer than the light bulb installed in it, this is your lamp. But please, do buy it on sale if you can as it is still in the category of cheap things.
